“After a long time of not understanding what was going on in my child’s mind, one day he told me, ‘Mom, I don’t have the body that matches who I am.’ As a mother, that was tough to hear. However, it also made a lot of things fall into place. I felt relieved because now I could start taking action.”
For her trans son, there was hardly anything he hadn’t already learned about being transgender and gender dysphoria, but for Astrid, everything was new. She had to take a crash course in no time to fully understand what it all meant.
“And quickly too, because Jesse was more than ready to begin his transition. A whole new world opened up for me—hormones, hormone blockers, gender teams, mastectomy, and so on. And of course, binders, because that’s what Jesse really wanted!”

“You learn a lot in this process, and so we ordered some binders. Different types, from different brands. But I wasn’t very happy with the binders we received. The fabrics didn’t allow his skin to breathe properly, causing skin irritation. The binders were too tight, which significantly increased the risk of skin tears (striae)! It might seem appealing because it achieves the desired effect, but by the time he would be ready for a mastectomy, he’d have a flatter chest covered in skin tears. That wouldn’t do any good for his self-confidence.”

Astrid had attended fashion school, and her background, combined with her belief that the products could be made better, led her to sit down at the sewing machine! After many long evenings, the foundation of what we now know as TransUndeez binders was created.
“As a mother, you always want the best for your child. You want your child to be happy, especially to feel comfortable in their own body. I wanted Jesse to be confident in who he is. Because there are more parents like me who suddenly find themselves in this situation, I started making binders for them too. All children and all people deserve high-quality products for their bodies!”
